Days of Awe

The word awesome is taken rather lightly nowadays used to describe everything from food to sports events to religious experiences. I'm sure that for some people, a win at a sporting event IS a religious experience. Nonetheless, our religion gifts us these days of introspection to think about who we are and what we can do to make the most of this life we have been given. I hope you will choose to use this time, not waste it, for as you get older, the fewer days you have.

This week we focus on using evidence from our novels to compare and contrast two main characters. I will be guiding you through the steps of pre-writing, organizing, and drafting in class. You are also expected to use the time you would normally spend on a journal entry on the essay as well. Excellent writing takes effort and revision.

Additionally, on your Day 2, you will have the Unit 3 Roots Test and a Membean Test on vocabulary. Following completion of both, you will continue working on the essay.

REMEMBER: You will have a grammar test on nouns October 3. Use your packet from class, the links from last week's blog post, and your grammar notebook to study and practice noun concepts including categories, capitalization, and identification.

You won't receive the next all-class novel until October 2. Feel free to check out a book from the library or borrow one from the classroom to be reading on your own.

HOMEWORK:
- Prepare for the Noun Unit Test by reviewing and using the links for 15-20 minutes daily.
- Membean - 45 minutes by Monday night (Next Vocab and Roots Test October 6).
- Begin learning Unit 4 roots (make your flash cards).
- Work on your essay at home instead of a journal entry.

That's it for this week!
